Bike Philadlephia Rental Kiosk

The purpose of the bike kiosks is to create new innovative ways to deliver methods of transportation to new sites.  Recently Bike Philadelphia has laid out decals that allow potential users to text in and see where they would like a kiosk to be delivered.  Now that we have that data we have designed a method to deliver these to the site via flatbed trucks.  These kiosks have been designed to allow for ease of access for the users while also ensuring the security of the bikes.  Each kiosk comes standard with four adult bicycles, two for children, safety equipment, as well as an electronic pay station.  Each also comes with two extra locking stations for ease of parking at new locations across the city.

The goals of this project are to create portable interventions that can be brought to a site and potentially change it for the better.  These interventions allow for a site to create new methods of activity.  Examples of this type of intervention include but are not limited to classrooms, marketplaces, workstation, cooking areas, as well as offering new modes of deliverable transportation.  We create structures that are more cost efficient than traditional construction which are appropriate for testing purposes.  In creating a mobile structure communities can test different interventions in the space.  When an idea is successful for a specific space these structures can be bought and become permanent fixtures that have use throughout the year.  With an alliance between the driving force of this project and programming partners we created easy to facilitate classes.  By creating a collaboration with corporate sponsors we can create replicable models that can be delivered with precision and be created and customized to fit user needs and scales of space.   In designing prototypical spaces for change we allow the user to define new possibilities for activity and growth.

With this prototype the user can be offered a wide variety of activities to enjoy.  The main goal of the Mobile Bike Room is to create a space that is friendly not just to gearheads but also to children that are in need of afterschool activities as well as creating a common audience with the general public.  With different user typologies in mind we have created a space that offers classes on a mock street for beginners with classes on how to ride.  For afterschool activity there is space and storage kept for a recycled bike program where children in need can make bikes from recycled parts and either keep or donate them.  People that are in need of repair can bring their bikes to the workstations where tools can be rented out from the tool library on an as need basis.  For bikers of any sort we offer rental of fifteen adult bicycles and seven for children along with proper safety equipment.

Removeable Marketplace

This product was one of our flagship ideas with the ideology in mind that people can create many wonderful things from a grouping of simple parts.  By using recycled cargo containers and giving them new finishes we can breathe new life into old materials.  Using new modules built from this material a community is able to make an arrangement of the modules that can fit in many different configurations and space types.  The first prototype of this structure includes a frame that the modules can be fit to that has lights to illuminate the structure.  By placing four of the modules onto the base and locking them in a small marketplace is formed that can offer a community new commerce options.  This is just one of the many options that are available with these modules which can create different structures for various needs

With the constant need for education in cities not only in for the youths but also for the older generation.  This structure creates a new type of classroom that can be delivered to the site via 18-wheeler and be set up and ready for use in a matter of hours.  There are two layers to the classroom an external shell as well as an internal rotating piece which sits on a base.  The amazing thing about the two different layers of the classroom is that each of the external pieces can be taken out and used year round in several weather conditions.  Using the rotating base different pieces can be assembled to fit to the class type and multiple classes can be taught on site at the same time.  Each of the four internal class spaces offers storage for many different types of activities such as education for elementary school classes and job preparation and training for those in need.
