Pop-Up Plaza

Adaptive re-use

Pedestrian Parkway

North Broad Street has slowly lost the excitement that Philadelphia is known for. The once bustling avenue has turned into a chaotic assortment of unused and underappreciated spaces. Our goal is to bring back a livelihood to North Broad that pushes outward from City Hall in an effort to amuse the daily crowd as well as the unfamiliar visitor.

An assortment of Pop-Up parks are the first of three interventions. The site is the municipal building plaza where an instillation can be arranged in any order to suit the needs of any specific event. The plaza can be fitted for events large and small with each unit measuring 5x5.

The next intervention is an adaptive renovation to 101 N. Broad st. The building sits diagonal from the Municipal Plaza and is currently vacant. The multi-level structure is the former host of the Liberty Title and Trust Company as well as the Philadelphia Water Department. The renovation will include the addition of a full size basketball court on the ground level and a number of places for people to enjoy themselves.

The last intervention is a multi-use structure that includes a pedestrian bridge which crosses over Race st. The ground level includes a beer garden, car dealership, pedestrian walkway and an entrance to the Race/Vine subway station. In addition to the ground level venues, there will be an underground parking garage to allow for easier pedestrian usage.
